(HealthDay News) — Reading is a fun activity for you and your toddler, and it helps your child build weighty speech skills.

Here are suggestions for reading to your toddler, courtesy of the Nemours Foundation:

  • Read at a scheduled unoccupied time each day, such as before bedtime.
  • If your child asks you to read a certain book, be studious in books it — even if it's the same one you interpret every obscurity.
  • Read slowly, so it's easy to listen and understand.
  • Use lots of cast of countenance in your notes at what time you read.
  • Encourage interaction while you read, including clapping, singing, and using puppets to act out what you're reading.
  • Substitute your child's name for the name of one of the book's characters.
  • Look at the pictures, ask your child to name certain objects, and seek information regarding lots of questions.

The use of epidural anesthetics for major surgery has been something controversial. There doesn't seem to be much question that it effectively reduces pain, but its safety has caused some concern.

LONDON (Reuters) - Children with poor skill control and coordination are more likely to become obese adults, researchers said on Wednesday.

The finding adds to a growing body of evidence linking poorer cognitive function in childhood to obesity and type 2 diabetes in adults.

A study of thousands of British children found those with the worst cognitive and physical function at the ages of seven and 11 years were far greater degree of likely to be obese in later life.

"It's not a judicial of people who are already overweight becoming clumsy for the reason that the manhood of these children weren't any heavier than their peers," researcher Scott Montgomery said in a telephone interview.

"It was assumed that all the neurological complications associated with obesity were consequences of corpulency itself.
